(1) ABS and conventional braking system are inseparable. Once there is a problem in the conventional braking system, ABS cannot work normally. Therefore, both of them should be considered as a whole for maintenance. When the brake system breaks down, it is generally necessary to determine whether it is a normal brake system fault or an ABS fault first, instead of focusing on sensors, electronic controllers and pressure regulators.
(2) Due to ABS ECU is very sensitive to over-voltage and static voltage. In order to prevent damage, attention should be paid to: when the ignition switch is in the on position, do not dismantle the electrical components and harness connectors in the system. If disassembling, disconnect the ignition switch; when charging the battery on the car with the charger, remove the battery cable from the car and charge again. Remember not to start the engine with the charger Motor: when welding on the vehicle, wear static electric appliance, unplug ECU connector and then conduct welding.
(3) ECU is easy to be damaged in high temperature environment. Generally, ECU can only bear 90 ℃ temperature in a short period of time, and some requirements require that ECU temperature cannot exceed 82 ℃. When baking paint on the car, the ECU shall be removed from the car as the case may be.
(4) There are accumulators in many ABS or ASR systems. Before repairing this kind of brake hydraulic system, remember to release the pressure first to avoid injury caused by high-pressure brake fluid. To release the high-pressure brake fluid in the accumulator, first disconnect the ignition switch, then repeatedly press and release the brake pedal (at least 25 times) until the brake pedal becomes hard; in addition, before the brake fluid system is completely installed, the ignition switch cannot be turned on to prevent the electric pump from electrifying and running the pump oil.
(5) The brake fluid is required to be changed once a year. The brake fluid shall be checked and replenished in time. Generally, when the brake fluid level is too low, ABS will automatically shut down. When storing and replacing the brake fluid, pay attention to keep the utensils clean.
(6) The wheel speed sensor should be repaired very carefully. During disassembly, do not collide and knock the sensor head, do not use the sensor ring as the pry surface; prevent oil or other dirt from sticking on it, and if necessary, apply a thin layer of antirust oil; some sensor gaps are not adjustable, some are adjustable, and non-magnetic feeler gauge or paper piece shall be used for adjustment.
(7) After repairing the brake system, or when the brake pedal feels soft during use, the air in the brake hydraulic system shall be removed. The air exhaust methods of the braking system equipped with ABS are generally different from those of the conventional braking system, and the procedure and sequence of air bleeding may be different for different forms of ABS. When removing air, it should be carried out according to the method and order required by the corresponding maintenance manual, otherwise, it will waste labor time and the air in the brake system will not be discharged clean.
(8) The tyres recommended by the automobile manufacturer shall be used as far as possible, and the tyres of different specifications shall not be mixed, otherwise the braking effect of ABS will be affected.
(9) Most of the wheel speed sensors, electronic control units and pressure regulators in ABS are irreparable. If they are damaged, they should be replaced as a whole.
(10) The brake operation method of the automobile equipped with ABS is the same as that of the ordinary brake system without ABS. However, in case of emergency braking, do not repeatedly step on the brake pedal. As long as the foot is continuously stepped on the brake pedal, ABS will enter the braking state without manual intervention. If the brake pedal is pressed more, the ABS ECU will not get the correct signal, resulting in poor braking effect. For the hydraulic brake system, when the ABS is working, the brake pedal will vibrate slightly or hear some noise. These are normal phenomena, indicating that the ABS is working, not a fault.
