To analyze the genetic environment of blalaq-1 and its related species, the NCBI nucleotide database was searched for strains highly homologous to structures surrounding blalaq-1. Comparative genomic analysis of five sequences, including those in this study, revealed that the upstream and downstream regions of the blalaq-1 and blalaq-1-like (AmpC) genes of all five sequences have conserved structures in gene background and gene sequence , but there is no functional annotation upstream of a gene. These results suggest that the genetic background of blalaq-1 and its relatives is conserved across species.
