In this paper, an ultrasonic sensor based on tapered multi-core optical fiber is proposed and applied to seismic physical model imaging. The sensor is a cascade of smf-tmcf-smf encapsulated on polyurethane rod. In the sensing structure, due to the decrease of the fiber diameter in the fused cone region of TMCF, the distance between several cores of the multi-core fiber decreases, which leads to the coupling of two modes. The polyurethane rod which is close to the underwater acoustic impedance is selected as the packaging material of the tapered multi-core optical fiber to ensure that the ultrasonic wave can be better received by the sensor.<br>
