From a Malaysian perspective, this article deals with the Filipino language. It aims to show the status of the Filipino language in the Malaysian language space. Filipinos are usually called Tagalog by Malaysians, and they share the same language with Malay sisters in the Austronesian family. Filipino has appeared in the mass media and academia in Malaysia. This article further explores the teaching of Filipino in Malaysia. This also raises the problems, problems and challenges of teaching language among Malaysian students, especially in the main university in Malaysia-the University of Malaya.
